The Regional Institute of Public Health in Brno is established in compliance with provisions of Par. 86, Act No. 258/2000 Coll. on protection of public health and on change in some related acts, as amended on the date of 1 January 2003. The Regional Institute is a sanitary facility.

The Regional Institute of Public Health is an allowance organisation. The institutor is the Ministry of Health. The statutory authority of the RI is a director that is appointed and repealed on the motion of the Country Health Officer by the Minister of Health.

Subject matter of activity:

Examination and measurement of the components of environment and of occupational conditions, characteristics of products and food, examination of biological and clinical materials for the purposes of exercising national medical supervision as well as in form of paid services also for the general public. Monitoring of health status of the inhabitants and of the environmental factors, living and working conditions, for elaboration of materials for assessment and management of health risks and for activities of public health protection bodies, as for a unit of the integrated rescue system. Provision for and implementation of local programs of health protection and support, education for support and protection of public health and consultative and other services.
